<image:caption>Tom McNamara is a filmmaker, journalist, and educator. He’s made videos and films for PBS, Popular Science Magazine, The Field Museum, Science Friday, Pioneer Works, Columbia Climate School, Wildlife Conservation Society, Chemistry Shorts, and a bunch of other places. He’s filmed in the Amazon rainforest, Serengeti Plain, brain banks, and underground government labs where the universe was redefined. He found the lost, first-ever recorded underwater film footage mislabeled in a Dutch film archive. Also, he was a National Park ranger for one year.</image:caption>

      <image:title>2025 Symposium details - Dr. Kevin Grazier</image:title>
<image:caption>Dr. Kevin Grazier is a researcher in the Department of Physics and Nuclear Engineering at the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY. His current research explores space weather and its operational effects. Grazier also works in STEM Communications for the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) where he developed, and is implementing, a communications strategy focused on uncovering and sharing stories about technology development and innovation within the department. Grazier grew up in Sterling Heights, Michigan and graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science; he earned a second BS in Physics from Oakland University while working full time in the auto industry writing engine control software. Grazier returned to Purdue for his Master of Science degree in Physics. At UCLA, Grazier earned an MS and Ph.D. in Geophysics and Space Physics—his dissertation research involved numerical method development and large-scale, long-term simulations of Solar System dynamics and evolution. Grazier was hired as a research scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California, where he held the dual titles of Investigation Scientist and Science Planning Engineer for the Cassini/Huygens Mission to Saturn and Titan. There he won numerous JPL- and NASA-wide awards for technical accomplishment. From 2016 to 2018, Grazier was a visiting professor in the EECS Department at West Point, teaching an introductory computer science course and furthering his dissertation research. After his first stint at West Point, Grazier assumed a scientist position in the Meteoroid Environment Office at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center where the role was to characterize meteoroid streams in order to assess the impact hazard to the International Space Station as well as other robotic and crewed missions. Grazier served as the Chief Scientist at Masten Space Systems before returning to West Point in 2024. Grazier has also consulted in the entertainment industry, serving as the science advisor for a number of television series (the Peabody-award-winning Battlestar Galactica, as well as Eureka, Defiance, Falling Skies, and Foundation) and feature films (Gravity and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales). He is also co-author of the “Hollyweird Science” series of books that explore the depiction of science, scientists, and the culture of science in TV and film.</image:caption>
